No Cars Go
4th November 2011
I've been in the Silicon Valley for the past few days, attending an event in a hotel with its own café, bar, restaurant, and laundromat. A hotel claiming that the closest bus stop or tram station is 4 or 5 miles away.
Twelve-lane roads and the great car park in the sky
Amidst the sarcasm I've unleashed on Twitter ever since landing in SFO and taking the 12-lane road to the valley, I can't help feeling lucky my urban lifestyle allows me, on a daily basis, to go to work, grab a coffee, eat out, visit a museum or pay a visit to friends without ever setting foot in “my car”. This place should be a mandatory visit for every urbanists whose view of the “car culture” errs on the side of the theoretical.
